Wawa one of the pilot barangay in the town of Lumban, province of Laguna where some families lived in modern residential houses, has a church, a public and
a private cemetery, a nurses an elementary school, a Rural Health Center and a vast measure of sources of income of the people.
It also in wawa where the
national high school is located and where the most of the students came from. It has service areas such as Segundula Pulo,
Primera Pulo, Balimbingan, Sto Niņo, Salac Segundo Pulo Primera Parang, Balubad, Maytalang I, Conception and even Lewin Caliraya
June 1974 marked the historical beginning of the secondary education in Wawa.
It
sowed the exodus of barrio youths to the urban areas in search for the higher education.
During the first year of
the school’s operation it was located in the Elementary School compound where rooms were shared to the high school classes.
They occupied buildings. Despite the situation, the Barangay High School tried
to provide services to the students.
The Elementary school quadrangle served as the area for co-curricular activities and for the CAT/WAS Training grounds.
And as years went by, the total number of enrollees go higher and higher. This caused them to the totally moved to transfer
to the newly acquired site then with an area of 600 square meters in which the was given the right to the use the land by
the heir of the late Emillia Dimacullangan Yu. It was possible through the initiative of the elementary school principal,
Mr. Enrique A. Javan and some barrio folks and personnel. The Wawa National High School rented private rose nearby the school
so as to accommodate the number of students.
In 1984, the elementary
school principal retired from the service and that was the time when Mr.Nilo
Y. Robles was designated as school Teacher In-charge. He worked hard since then and with his good relationship with the barangay
captain and with newly elected PTA President, another 600 metered was acquired where half of it was donated to the Sangguniang
Bayan headed by the municipal mayor and half of it was donated to the school
by the land owner. It was on this site where the office of he head teacher who was then promoted after 8 months of being TIC.
The progress of the school
continued and it didn’t stop from being transferred alone. The School Head made a resolution to acquire additional school
site. Fortunately, it was approved by the former Congressman, Honorable Magdaleno M. Palacol for the required documents submitted
to him were met. However, it took 3 years before the final negotiation was made. The total amount which was released for a
period of 3 years through the initiative of the late Congressman, which was in the possession of the Municipal treasurer,
was ready and the final negotiation was made between landowner and town mayor. The development of the newly acquired 6,000
squired metered school site, through purchase, was made. It was started by the pulling out the coconut trees and other trees
and plants grown in the said area. Through many resolutions, the following improvements were made: the installation of water
and power system, concrete fence, covered pathways, covered court, more building, more buildings and a lot more.
Truly, the number of enrollees
increased every year. By this time, there are already 1,363 students enrolled. It has also 28 teaching and non-teaching staff
plus two caretakers. The old site, where the first year student are housed, has 5 classrooms and at the new site where the
second year student to fourth year students are kept nurtured has 10 classrooms and 3 improvised classrooms in the covered
court, a faculty room, an office for principal, a library a science laboratory(which cannot be used because of the damage
cause of fire), a computer room, a guidance center, canteen, a school clinic(new put-up), a pathway which has a shed which
is sometimes referred to as catwalk by some students and a garden site where students plant
and grow vegetables and other crops. And through the concreted effort, initiative of the school personnel and the support
of the town officials, the community and the DepEd authorities, our dream came into fruition. Humbly speaking, the school
garnered some prestigious awards such as the most outstanding classhome, Guidance Center, NFE, Principal’s office and
the school itself from the DepEd, Division of Laguna. Moreover, the school was cited a Plaque of recognition in the national
level as the most Innovative Brigada Eskwela from the department of Education during the educator’s congress in Baguio
City.
And finally, we, the teaching
and non teaching staff, would like to extend our sincerest thanks and gratitude to
all the people who gave their wholehearted support and assistance, both financially
and morally, for the school’s success and all it’s undertaking’s and the most especially for all
the blessing’s endowed to us from the one above, to our Lord Almighty.
